 First Christian Church of Falls Church began its ministry on December 7, 1952. One hundred and twenty-five dedicated Christians met in an Arlington lodge hall and committed their devotion, energies and stewardship to establishing a new congregation in Falls Church.
Today, we are a vibrant, caring, growing congregation that continues to live out our faith in Falls Church and beyond. We are affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), a denomination of almost one million members, who profess faith in Jesus Christ and seek, in every aspect of life together to follow him in paths of love, justice, and service.
First Christian Church sits on 7 acres of wooded and grassy land one half mile east of Seven Corners (Route 50) on Route 7. Get directions here. Located on a bustling thoroughfare with retail, apartments, and malls, First Christian Church lives in the midst of a plurality of settings. We are blessed with Hispanic, African, Vietnamese, Middle Eastern, and European neighbors. Behind the church lies Jeb Stuart High School and just to the east is the Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center – a Muslim community of prayerful vibrancy. Beautiful Lake Barcroft is behind us in a lush neighborhood setting.
We are a little over 400 members, with an active Sunday participation of around 200. Currently the church employs two full-time ministers and a part-time director of music, as well as an organist, secretary, custodian, and childcare attendants.
Our facility is large and beautiful with a 400+ seat sanctuary, parlor complete with fireplace just off the sanctuary, newly renovated Fellowship Hall and large kitchen for food and fellowship. Downstairs is our education and music wing and library. We also have an outdoor chapel, a large parking lot, and plentiful “green space” to compete with the significant street traffic.
We love the neighborhood we live in and hope to continue growing our relationships with all of our neighbors.One of our most vital ministries is “Safe Haven,” a drop-in day shelter for the homeless. Twice a week, we provide breakfast and a hot lunch, as well as access to county social services.
Our commitment to the neighborhood has deep roots. In 1969, FCCFC opened a child-care center (the Seven-Corners Child Care Center), which now resides in the nearby community due to growing beyond our capacity. Members of our church helped in the development of the Bailey's Shelter, the Annandale Christian Community for Action (ACCA) and the Falls Church Community Service Council (FCS). We continue to support these activities, in addition to supporting the work of our denomination, the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) here in our region and around the world.
Active Sunday School classes, adult education programs, growing children and youth ministries, and Bible Studies occur weekly. A young adult group meets monthly for fellowship. We have a very strong music program, with a choir of 25-35. Our church is highly involved in a regional camp and conference program for children and youth during the summer months, and families are honored and supported through a variety of ministries.
