Seeking Part-Time Organist for Interim or Permanent Position
First Christian Church has a tradition of musical excellence with an active music program that includes five choirs, incorporates a variety of musical styles, and fosters a collaborative and affirming environment. Our organist is a vital part of that ministry. The position is part-time, 10-15 hours a week, depending on interest and availability. We have two services each Sunday with two weekly rehearsals. In July and August there is one service with limited rehearsals. Our instruments are a Casavant II/34, which has been featured on the AGO Tri-Chapter website, and a 6.5-foot Steinway.
Our organist works closely with the director of music ministries and the ministry staff to enhance and develop worship services and special events; provides appropriate organ and/or piano music for services and events; accompanies all choirs as needed; leads sectional rehearsals; and participates in the annual off-site choir retreat.
The salary is negotiable, depending on hours and experience. Benefits for the permanent position include paid vacation, sick leave, continuing education leave, and a music allowance. A degree in organ is preferred; facility with varying styles of music is required. Participation in the development of emerging worship styles and experiences is possible for an interested candidate.
