Through a variety of outreach activities, First Christian Church is involved in many programs to help those in need in our community. Church members participate directly in these programs. Financial support also is provided.
In our service to those in troubled places, Disciples heed Jesus’ call to “love our neighbor.”

CHILDREN
The church helped establish and continues to support the Seven Corners Children’s Center located in the Willston area. The Center provides day care and training for 70 pre-school children of low income families.

FOOD
One Sunday each month, the Church collects non-perishable goods for the FCS Food Pantry. Combined with donations from other churches, each year more than 1200 needy families are provided a week’s supply of groceries.

CLOTHING
The Christian Women’s Fellowship conducts Church–wide clothing drives in the spring and the fall to support the FCS Clothes Closet, the Salvation Army and shelters for the homeless and abused family members.

TRANSPORTATION
Church volunteers provide transportation for individuals who cannot afford a car or can not drive, to go to medical appointments and other essential trips in the FCS service area.

HOUSING AND FAMILY SUPPORT
The Church assists need families through the Emergency Assistance and HOMESTRETCH programs of FCS and ACCA. Funds for utilities and rent are available for referrals from social workers and ministers.

FURNITURE
The Church participates in a join FCS and ACCA furniture program whereby donated furniture is picked up, repaired if needed, and delivered to needy families. First Christian fields two moving crews, each has the duty five times a year. Three repair teams help four times a year.

MEALS ON WHEELS
First Christian assists with one of the ACCA routes for Meals on Wheels serving the Bailey’s Crossroads area not far from the church.

SAFE HAVEN FOR THE HOMELESS
First Christian cooperates with the Bailey’s Shelter for the Homeless by providing space for day programs and lunch every Tuesday during the winter months. In addition, church members provide personal items and other supplies for the homeless shelter at Bailey’s and Falls Church.

CHRISTMAS IN APRIL
Each year, First Christian volunteers sponsor a one day effort to repair and improve a home for a needy family.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
Summer of 2005 an intergenerational group from the church will participate in a Habitat for Humanity build. Plans are in process, but we will most likely travel out of state. If you are interested in participating, please contact the church office.

If you wish to participate as a volunteer, please contact the Church office for further information (703)532-8220. Financial support, food and furniture donations are always needed.
