The image above is the
creation of Bill Boston, a member of First Christian Church.
Entitled The Father’s Dream, it depicts God dreaming
of the life of Jesus Christ. The Star of Bethlehem, seen at
the top of the image, is also the cross, reminding us both of
the birth and death of Christ. The chalice in the bottom center
is the logo of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and
also represents the Lord’s Supper, which is central to
our tradition. The cross in the chalice becomes Jesus’
manger bed, and the dove at the bottom reminds us of Jesus’
baptism. The entire image is a mosaic, representing the many
people that make up the body of Christ.

“I have been driven
many times to my knees by the overwhelming conviction that
I had nowhere else to go.” ~Abraham Lincoln
“One Benedictine friend, a gentle, thoughtful man
who has been in constant physical pain for years and is now
confined to a wheelchair, says of prayer, ‘Often, all
I can do is to ask God, “Lord what is it you want of
me?” From him I have learned that prayer is not asking
for what you think you want but asking to be changed in ways
you can’t imagine. To be made more grateful, more able
to see the good in what you have been given instead of always
grieving for what might have been. People who are in the habit
of praying…know that when a prayer is answered, it is
never in a way that you expect.” ~Kathleen Norris
Prayer is the foundation of our communication with God. It
is attuning ourselves to hearing God’s “still
small voice.” It is opening ourselves up to change and
transformation. It is how we share our innermost thoughts,
fears, dreams, and confessions – offering them to God
with the assurance that God will mold them into something
altogether new.
If there is a loved one, a situation, a joy, or a concern
